3. The growth of premillennialism

Firstly, we need to explain the term “premillennialism.” It is a theological way of looking at Scripture, based on a particular interpretation of the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible. The book of Revelation is concerned with “last things,” or what will happen at the end of this age. It is to do with eschatology, or the study of the end times, where there is a period described of 1,000 years, known as the millennium. It is the nature of this millennium and its relationship to the return of Christ that has given rise to various interpretations. There are basically four ways of interpreting the book of Revelation:
